In English, as in most languages, when we want to express a request, extend an invitation or even give a direct command, we rely on the imperative:

“Close the window!”

“Don’t fill up on sweets!”

Constructing the imperative in English is easy, since it’s basically a verb in its infinitive form. In Italian, however, the infinitive form can only be used in one specific case. (We’ll delve into that soon enough.)
